Attracting tens of thousands of racers and fans from across the globe since 2000, the TX2K event is a staple of the racing industry and truly earns its reputation as the “Super Bowl of Street Cars”. For the past decade, TX2K has been the marquee event to attend during our racing season as we are able to competitively race numerous vehicles due to the varied class structure of the event.

For TX2K23, we were able to bring multiple 1000+ wheel horsepower Audi R8s, Lamborghini Huracans, and Nissan GTRs, many of which set personal bests, and some even bringing home second place in roll racing Sport class, and first place in the drag racing GTR68 class.

The TX2K event was bittersweet this year, as it is the last year it will be hosted at Houston Raceway Park, but the entire AMS Race Team is looking forward to TX2K’s future home at Texas Motorplex outside Dallas.

Podium Finish in Roll Racing

Jonathan Clavijo brings home some silver hardware with a second place finish in the Sport class! With this years minimum MPH to enter the roll race event set at an astounding 179.83 MPH, we knew competition was going to be tough for any car making under 1500 WHP. Going round for round with some very fast cars, Jonny in his Vegas Yellow ALPHA 12 R8 was able to close out the roll race event strong with a podium finish at TX2k 2023!

ALPHA 12 R8 Goes 200+ MPH

Victor’s ALPHA 12 R8 was running strong at TX2k, competing in both the roll racing with a best speed of 201 MPH, and the drag racing with a best time of 8.1 @ 182 MPH in the DCT Elite class. While he came up short to take a spot on the podium, we’re still amazed at what this little G35-1050 car can do! 200+ MPH is generally reserved for the big turbo cars!

New ALPHA 20 Huracan Build Runs 7s

Jr had an incredible first outing with his new ALPHA 20 Huracan EVO, qualifying for the DCT Elite class, and running a best pass of 7.74 @ 191 MPH. With some more seat time and a few additional calibration tweaks we’re excited to see what this build can do for the rest of the 2023 racing season!

Dave Wins GTR68

Coming off of a major milestone earlier this year at DCT World Cup where Dave accomplished his longtime goal of a 6 second pass with his ALPHA W GTR, we were unsure how the car would perform at TX2k. To our surprise, Dave removed all doubt by immediately running a new personal best of 6.96 @ 210 off the trailer, claiming his spot as the number one qualifier in the GTR68 class! Dave continued on through 4 rounds of competition and eventually took the win in the GTR68 class, again running a new personal best of 6.92 @ 211 MPH! All of the hard work and determination from Dave is finally paying dividends here in the 2023 season.

Meeting With Tamura-san

Father of the R35 GT-R and Nissan Chief Product Specialist for the new Z by day, and alleged member of the infamous Mid Night Club by night, Hiroshi Tamura came all the way from Japan to see Dave’s 6 second ALPHA W GT-R. We first met Tamura-san many years ago when he visited our shop, but to have him see us in our element at the racetrack was truly an honor. He was very impressed that Dave was able to achieve a 6 second quarter mile pass, with stock location turbos. Tamura-san was kind enough to give his autograph to Dave’s dashboard and intake manifold, which is the perfect memento to remember the meeting.

Goodbye Houston

After a decade of TX2K events attended, the AMS Race Team says goodbye to Houston Raceway one last time. Sadly, like so many other race tracks around the country,  Houston Raceway Park is scheduled to be demolished just a few short weeks after TX2K23. By years end, the land will be repurposed for distribution warehouses that have been swallowing up the local properties in recent years. We’re going to miss this place, but can’t wait to set new records and make new memories at Texas Motorplex next year.
