AMS Archives Episode 5: The Perfect 10 🔟
We’ve covered the earliest days at AMS, the Evo years, the R35 GT-R heyday, and the rise of the VR30. Now we’re leaving the turbo four and six-cylinder world behind for something with a little more displacement (and a lot more cylinders) 🔟
In 2012, after more than a year of development, AMS released a twin turbo kit for a car most of the aftermarket wouldn’t touch: the Audi R8 🎯 A ground-up twin turbo system for the naturally aspirated 5.2L V10, making well over 900hp on 93 octane pump gas.
When Lamborghini’s Huracan arrived with that same V10 heart, the R8 program grew into what we now call the V10 program 🐂
In August 2019, we released the ALPHA 9 package for Huracan and R8: 900hp on pump gas and sub-9-second quarter miles on street tires 🚀 That first Huracan build went on to be featured on Netflix’s Hyperdrive 📺
Then Alpha Omega returned. In late 2023, the Alpha Omega Huracan became the first Lamborghini in history to run a 6-second quarter mile, and it still holds the crown 🏆
Current PB: 6.98 @ 211mph, 2,800whp / 1,650 lb-ft, 49psi from twin Garrett G45-1600s, launching a 3,900lb race car to 60mph in 1.53 seconds and 60-130 in 1.84 😳 Still the quickest Lamborghini in the world. Still the only one in the 6s.
The R8 program hasn’t slowed down either. The ALPHA GT4 debuted at TX2K25 with a 7.38 @ 199mph. Current PB: 7.13 @ 210mph, 2,967whp / 1,766 lb-ft at 48psi, RWD only, in a 3,720lb race car 🏁 Built on an AMS Stage 4 Billet Long Block, Stage 6 GearWorks Transmission with @dodsonmotorsport internals, and MoTeC M142 ECU.
