AMS Archives: Episode 4 – The VR30 Era 🏁
In this series, we’ve covered the earliest days of AMS Performance, our growth in the industry with the Evo platform, and our dominance of the R35 GT-R heyday. In this episode, we’ll cover one of our most popular current platforms: the VR30 🏁
The AMS VR30 story starts in 2017, with the debut of our Red Alpha Drag Car Concept at SEMA 🆕 The car was built in partnership with Infiniti USA, developed to launch a line of performance parts for Infiniti Motorsports sold in dealerships across the country. While work on the platform started behind the scenes before then, the public unveiling in 2017 kicked off a story that is still evolving to this day 📖 The “Red Alpha Drag Car Concept” is what is now known as Red Alpha, the testbed for a large number of AMS VR30 parts, reaching milestones and setting records to this day 🏎️💨
Since then, we’ve continued developing the VR30 platform into what it is today. We were the first on the platform to run a 10-second quarter mile, and the first into the 9s and 8s ⏱️ To this day, AMS Performance owns the title of first (and only) 1,000whp VR30. Not one, not two, but three 1,000+whp AMS VR30s, with the most powerful of the three being Bobby’s ALPHA 10 Q60 producing an astonishing 1,135whp 📈
The VR30 engine in the Infiniti Q50/Q60 and Nissan Z is a potent platform. To that point, we’ve run as fast as 9.23 at 149mph with our AMS R&D Z, the record for the quickest and fastest new Nissan Z on the planet 🥇 But that’s not even the most impressive part: we set this record on the stock engine, stock transmission, and stock suspension 😳 Just a whole lot of bolt-on parts from our team here at AMS Performance 🏭
