New and Improved, Welcome Anthony’s ALPHA 10 Infiniti Q50 to the 8 Second Club
Introducing Anthony’s ALPHA 10 Infiniti Q50, now the world’s quickest VR30! While Bobby was the first VR30 into the 8s in the quarter mile, Anthony followed that up by running an 8 second pass of his own just moments later. Not to be outdone, Bobby did it first but Anthony did it quicker! Anthony ran an 8.97 at 152mph to Bobby’s 8.98 at 154mph. Bobby may have ran faster, but Anthony ran just that much quicker, the singular most important metric in drag racing – who is first to cross the finish line. With this performance, the AMS Performance team holds the Triple Crown of the VR30 platform: the world’s quickest and fastest Infiniti Q50, the world’s quickest and fastest Infiniti Q60, and the world’s quickest and fastest Nissan Z. But we’re not done yet, Anthony is already hatching a plan to go even quicker. Stay tuned as always! As the AMS Performance team continues to push the VR30 platform to Infiniti and beyond.
In a story similar to Bobby’s ALPHA 10 Infiniti Q60, Anthony’s ALPHA 10 Infiniti Q50 made its debut at the 32nd Annual Shootout at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio after we made significant upgrades in the off-season. For more on that, see the lengthy list of modifications below, including a number of in-house custom components created with one goal in mind: record-breaking performance. Comparing the list of modifications of Bobby’s ALPHA 10 Infiniti Q60 and Anthony’s ALPHA 10 Infiniti Q50, you will notice quite a few similarities. These builds are not one-off racecars, but rather a package offering from AMS Performance available for those looking to push the upper limits of the VR30 platform. The ALPHA 10 package for the Infiniti Q50/Q60 is available for in-house builds only at this time, contact our team via phone, e-mail, or social media for more information and how to begin the build process for yourself.
The story of Anthony’s debut at the Shootout follows a nearly identical trajectory to Bobby’s story, with the two running nearly the same times all weekend long. If you haven’t done so already, you can read about the story of Bobby’s ALPHA 10 Q60 HERE. The first pass jitters got the best of the car, with a 2-3 shift off the line derailing the run leading to a 19 second run at 52mph. Not to worry though, as that would be the slowest pass of the weekend by quite a large margin. On the next pass, a new record in the quarter mile for the Infiniti Q50 with a run of 9.35 at 150mph. That’s more like it. This is where the similarities to Bobby’s ALPHA 10 Q60 begin, with Bobby making a pass of 9.39 at 151mph. On the next pass, more of the same. Where Bobby ran a 9.15 at 153mph, Anthony ran a 9.16 at 151mph! Once again, new records for the Q60 and Q50 respectively, as well as the VR30 platform as a whole. But the best was yet to come.
Onto the third round of qualifying, a missed step in the pre-race procedure led to “only” a 9.67 at 129mph. Safety in the calibration pulled timing and boost to protect the car, crisis averted. A quick look over before the next pass, all is good and we’re ready for the next! And with that, Anthony’s quickest and fastest pass of the weekend, 8.97 at 152mph! An 8 second pass of his own. Years of hard work, determination, and more hard work have led up to this moment. Being the last pass of the night, it was time to celebrate. Anthony, Bobby, and the AMS Performance team took the time to revel in the once-in-a-lifetime moment before getting back to business as usual the following morning.
Where Bobby followed up the previous night’s performance with another 8 second pass, Anthony narrowly missed another one of his own with a pass of 9.04 at 152mph. With that, four passes between the two ALPHA 10 builds separated by a combined time of just over one tenth of a second. With two different passes being separated by just one hundredth of a second, each. Doesn’t get much more consistent than that! A true testament to the work of the AMS Performance team, building two different cars that performed nearly identically. It is for this reason we say these cars are no one-off builds, but available as a package offering to anyone looking to push the limits of the VR30 platform. The ALPHA 10 package has already proven to be capable of record-breaking performance, not just another one-hit-wonder. Looking at you, Sir Mix-A-Lot.
One more pass to end this year’s Shootout, and a similar fate to Bobby’s in terms of eliminations. A broken driveshaft off the line would see Anthony knocked out in the first round of eliminations. An unfortunate ending to an incredible weekend, but all is not lost. Nothing can take away the feeling of those first 8 second passes, memories that will last a lifetime. Plus, a driveshaft is an easy fix. Having already been swapped out since returning to the AMS Performance shop after the race weekend. What started as a shakedown for a couple of brand-new builds, ended in a weekend full of record-breaking performances. With the overall VR30 record being lowered from 9.23 to 9.16 to 9.15 to to 8.98 to 8.97, in addition to the Q record being bested an additional four times on top of that. To add to all of that, the platform 60-130 record down to 4.52 from 4.79. A proper first outing for the latest ALPHA 10 Infinitis, but this won’t be the last time you hear from Anthony and Bobby! As mentioned above, Anthony is already scheming how we can get the car even deeper into the 8s.
For now, back to the lab again. Work has already begun to beat these new records. Less weight, more power, the age-old recipe. We invite you to stay tuned to our various social media channels for all the latest updates to these builds and beyond. Everyday we are working towards being even better than we were yesterday, whether that means quicker, faster, safer, or all of the above. That’s all for now, keep an eye on this developing story as we undergo the next round of upgrades. Next stop: mid 8s and far beyond!
