The World’s Quickest and Fastest VR30

Not Only The World’s Quickest and Fastest Nissan Z, Also The World’s Quickest and Fastest VR30!

There’s a new time to beat on the VR30 platform! And that is a time of 9.23 at 149mph set by our AMS ALPHA Z at our local Great Lakes Dragaway, just a couple hours north of the AMS Performance home base in Batavia, Illinois. Way back in July of 2023, this car previously set the record for World’s Quickest and Fastest Nissan Z with a time of 9.75 at 143mph. We held that title for nearly two years until the record was finally broken in May of 2025. In traditional AMS fashion, we had to get back out there and reclaim our crown!

Just a few days later, the team loaded up the ALPHA Z to head to the track. On the first pass off the trailer, the car went 9.47 at 148mph, reclaiming the record with ease. Never satisfied, the twins knew the Z had more in it. A look at the logs and a few slight adjustments to the calibration and we sent the car back out. Second pass, 9.45 at 147mph. A marginal improvement on the first run, but approaching the overall VR30 platform record.

Another check of the logs and everything looked alright, let’s give it another shot. 30 minutes later, 9.33 at 148mph! A new record for the entire VR30 platform! Previously held by another AMS customer car, Mikhail’s Q50 with a time of 9.40 at 149mph. Jake and Miles believed the car still had more in it, so we sent the car back out one more time. Last pass of the night, 9.23 at 149mph! Reclaiming the Z crown by a wide margin, adding the overall VR30 title in the process. But wait, there’s more! On that last pass, the car ran a 4.92 60-130, becoming the first Z in the 4s 60-130. A successful night at the track, to say the least!

The setup remained largely unchanged from the last time we brought the car out. You can find a comprehensive list of modifications below. At a high level, the AMS ALPHA Z still features the stock, unopened long block. Stock, untouched transmission. The most major change of note is the wheel and tire setup, opting for a more appropriate combination for the drag strip. With our VR30 engine program at the ready, we see a lot more potential in the AMS ALPHA Z. We look forward to getting back out to the track and running even quicker!
